Content Management - Pages
1. Manage Pages Directory
If you're reading this during or after your CMS training since commisisoning a website, odds are that this directory is already loaded up with your site's copy, media, and content. All of the pages here should be tied to your site's primary navigation, sorted by default from first produced (usually 'Home'), to last. Refer to Figure 2 as we go through its layout and sorting / filtering features.
Your pages are layed out in a table, displaying its pageID, Page Title, URL, Last-Modified date & time, and applicable actions. At the top above the table, there is an Add-Page button and a search filter.
Add Page
- This button sends you to the Page Content Editor, all fields empty. We'll take an in-depth look at this later. You can jump straigt to it by clicking Here [TODO - add link to relevant user doc]
Search Filter
- This search bar will instantly match any text you input, hiding all table rows that don't have the matching character string. This feature is present on every directory that features a table.
ID Column
- This column denotes the order your pages were made in, starting at 1 and increasing from there. The ID of a page is immutable; it cannot be changed or manually assigned. If you delete a page and make a new one, the ID will increase as if the deleted page were still there.
- I.E., with pages ID'd 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, deleting 5 will leave you with 1, 2, 3, and 4.
- Then, adding a new page, you will see the directory list 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6.
- Clicking the head of this column ( ID ) will sort your pages in ascending or descending order.
Page Title
- This column displays the titles of your pages. Simple enough.
- Clicking the head of this column will sort your pages in alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order.
URL
- This column displays the URL tail of the page, which will always match the page title with hyphens substituted for spaces.
- Earlier in the documentation, it was mentioned that pages are not automatically added to your site's navigation. They do, however, launch to live as a page you can navigate to through the URL bar of your browser. For instance, if you made a page called About Us, the complete URL of the page would be https://cms-demo.com/About-Us (substitute cms-demo.com for your site domain). The page the loads at that URL will have the content you input.
- If you need a new page on your main site navigation, you'll need to contact your account executive (unless you extend your site installation to accomodate CMS nav bars). But you can still make as many secondary pages as you need, and link them however you please through the rest of your pages' or blog posts' content. You can even make a page yourself, and contact your AE to add it to your main site navigation.
